Clubhouse Happenings June/July

As I am writing this, I still can’t believe that it has been two whole months since I took over as Executive Director at the Clubhouse. For those of you who have not met me yet, my name is Rebecca Reeves. I have lived in Casper for about four years now and just graduated with my Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy. During my last year of studies, I researched and studied the Clubhouse model extensively. I fell in love with everything the Clubhouse is about. I feel it is truly meant to be that I am in this position, for I am very passionate about working with others to get back to what is meaningful and important to them.

The transition between directors in June went very smoothly and Dan has committed to being my mentor for the next few months as I traverse this new territory. June was a busy and exciting month. We went to several community outings including a baseball game, a concert in the park, and a concert at David Street Station. The attendance at the Clubhouse has been steadily increasing and we have had three new members over these last couple of months. Our days at the Clubhouse continue to be busy. We have structured our work-ordered days into three work-units: the kitchen unit, the garden/maintenance unit, and the clerical/business unit. Each day members get to choose what unit they would like to work in. Members and staff then work side by side to get the day's work done.

We are also working hard for an accreditation visit which will happen at the end of next year. To get ready for this we are currently working on implementing our transitional employment work program. Our goal is to have our first placement up and running by November. If you would like to learn more about the standards that we are working on meeting for our accreditation, please visit this website: https://clubhouse-intl.org/resources/quality-standards/

In addition to community outings, our regular work-ordered days, and working towards accreditation, we also are working towards the beautification of our building, both inside and out. We have been organizing the inside of our building and have set up the gym area to include a crafting area and an area where people can work on employment endeavors. We have also taken on the painting of the exterior of our building. We have had many volunteers come to help and we hope to have this finished by the end of this summer season.

I hope you have enjoyed this update. The Clubhouse is so very grateful and appreciative of your continued support and donations. Take care and enjoy the rest of your summer!

With Gratitude,

Rebecca Reeves
