Farewell to Iris Clubhouse – A Bittersweet Goodbye

As my AmeriCorps service term comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the past several months at Iris Clubhouse — and what a journey it’s been. This experience has been deeply meaningful, both personally and professionally.

I had the honor of walking alongside incredible members and dedicated staff who believe in the power of community, healing, and second chances. Whether it was creating a structured Supported Education program for future volunteers, crafting a comprehensive onboarding manual, or simply caring for our beloved turtle, every task held purpose because it was rooted in people.

Some of my most treasured moments were spent sharing laughter during the Work-Ordered Day, participating in spiritual practices that honored Native traditions, and connecting with partners across justice systems to make our Clubhouse stronger and more inclusive. I also had the joy of helping lead outreach, welcoming new members, and being part of events that celebrated the mission of belonging.

Iris Clubhouse is more than a program — it’s a living example of what happens when compassion, dignity, and empowerment guide the work.

Thank you for letting me be a part of this chapter. I’m leaving with a full heart and deep gratitude for all that I've learned and all who have taught me.

With respect and love,

Tonja
